Bookends: Two New Moons in One Month  January 30

Typically in January, the first month of a New Year, many of us make resolutions. And, just as typically, by this time in the month, we’ve already forgotten them. With this second New Moon, we have a chance to ‘renew our vows’, so to speak.

I have to say that personally, there is a resolution I make every year and, by accident, so far this year, I have fulfilled it. I live about 17 miles from the ocean and each year I vow to go there at least once a month. I live about 75 miles from San Francisco with its many museums. The other part of my resolution is to go to a SF museum at least once a month. So far, this year, I have done both. A good start to my year as far as I’m concerned.

Yesterday at the beach at Spud Point while looking through the shells and pebbles I said to my friend, “I am looking for old bottle glass, but, now that most bottles are plastic, it’s nearly impossible to find.” Just then, I see shining up at me a small piece of green! Like an emerald gleaming in the sun…and then another! Soon I had 7 pieces, similar in size. I felt that Spirit was trying to tell me not to give up on my dreams. Miracles do happen!

I found a brown piece, still sharp and rough and rather than putting it in my pocket I thought, “Leave this so that someday another person who has given up trying to find bottle glass on the beach will find it and be thrilled.”

In Sufism and many other spiritual paths, they speak of Surrender. This does not mean giving up. What it means is that there are times when we cannot figure things out ourselves. Yes, we are amazing beings with incredible brains, but, there is more going on here than we know. We have to “let go and let God.” We have to let go of having to ‘know’, ‘understand’, ‘figure it out’. We have to leave room for the miraculous to enter.

Many art forms depict doorways. Doors are openings that allow people and things to pass from one place to another. In a similar way, the alignment of Sun and Moon that creates New and Full Moons opens portals/doorways between dimensions allowing the passage of energy, new ideas, inspiration….

If we find ourselves in a loop of trying, failing, trying, failing…..stop, surrender. Throw your hands up and say “God* I surrender. I can’t do this on my own, I need help.” Your Guardian Angel** is sitting patiently on the couch waiting for an opening. Waiting to drop some ‘emeralds’ in front of you to find.

Einstein said: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon at 11° Aquarius says: “During a silent hour a man receives a new inspiration which may change his life; the need to rely upon inner inspiration and guidance at the start of new developments.”

Allow time each day if possible to open the doorway in your consciousness, for something miraculous to enter….

*God in whatever form you see Him/Her/It….

**another word for your Higher Self, your inner wisdom etc.
