New Moon in Pisces - drunk at the Edge of the roof

With so much going on astrologically and on the planet (as above, so below), we might be tempted to just pull the covers up over our heads and (try) to go back to sleep. Good luck with that. This Mercury retrograde has many of us having to take care of business Now!

Of course, the on-going Pluto and Uranus square remains in effect as a backdrop for everything else that may be occurring in our daily lives.

Read a useful tip from Martha Beck this morning I thought I would pass on. In an article on her website entitled “How to Stop Regretting Decisions”, she offers six steps to “transform the way you tell the story of your past”. I found #4 particularly useful:

4. Reclaim the Essence of Your Dreams

I won’t quote the entire passage. You can go there to read it. The gist of it is that she says you can reclaim the essential experiences you missed. If you made a decision (or one was made for you) that you regret, identify what elements of it that you miss(ed). For example, if there was a place you thought of moving to and didn’t, and now regret your decision, what was it about that place that attracted you in the first place? This will help you move forward in your current life.

As someone said a long time ago, “there’s no use crying over spilt milk.” Well, you can cry for a minute, but then continuing to cry is stupid, right? It might cause you to spill more milk.

This New Moon in Pisces signals the approaching end of the zodiacal year. A good time to review the past year, then let it go.

I think one of the things that holds us back is that we can get ‘addicted’ to the process of healing. We can get caught on Neptune’s trident. “Hooked” is the word for it. We can get hooked on anything, even ‘good’ things.

Let’s face it, we all have been wounded, either in this life, the last hundred or so, or all of the above. Life on planet Earth is challenging. We can get into a bad habit of focusing on our wounds. Caroline Myss became famous writing about this: Why People Don’t Heal, coining the term: ‘woundology’ to connote a pattern many people have of always speaking about their wounds. There comes a time when we have to get off the pity pot and move on.

Many of those who manage to move on go into the next phase called ‘the wounded healer’ where they have been working on themselves and now want to share all they have learned. They want to be ‘healers’. The trap here is to get so into studying all the thousands of modalities that have sprung up in the last 30 years, you never DO anything. It’s okay, just admit it. You love workshops, trainings and seminars. (I do)

You meet this person and rather than telling you they are a recovering _________ fill in the blank, they are a Reiki master, herbalist, massage therapist, astrologer, flower essence practitioner, plant spirit medicine practitioner, shaman of this and that tradition, ordained…..the list goes on and on. And yet, even this person often has no clue about what to do next.

Aha! Zen moment!

Now mind you, I am not criticizing anyone. I am merely stating a fact that I’m sure you, too, have observed. And, personally, I would rather hang out with the ‘wounded healers’ than the ‘wounded’ for what it’s worth.

But this is all part of the Piscean Age, which is ending. The Pisces/Virgo axis represented by Jesus Christ and Christianity is characterized by victim mentality. Once a person has stopped being a victim, they want to serve others. A noble cause but still part of that polarity.

We are moving into the Aquarian Age. As I wrote in my post on Mercury Retrograde, Mercury is taking a message from Pisces to Aquarius. What is that message?

Part of that message is: everything that ever happened to us in this or past lives has brought us to the place we are now. We could not be the healer we want to be if these things had not occurred. It was all a necessary part of our development and…..the bell rang. School is over.

While I do believe that Earth School continues until our last moment here, there comes a point when we move from Elementary School to High School and beyond. What will be the lessons of that next level? The point is awakening.

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus and Saturn. Saturn, the traditional ruler is about discipline and responsibility. As we begin to KNOW about energy, we need to become more and more responsible about how we use it. We KNOW better, now we have to DO better.

Caroline Myss says, “Whenever you become empowered, you will be tested."

I believe we have all been in a cocoon since 2012, completing our transformation. Soon it will be time to emerge. If you are feeling lost or have no idea what’s next, you are not alone. As Rumi says: “Sit, be still and listen because you’re drunk and we’re at the edge of the roof” We are all drunk and hooked on Neptune’s trident at the moment.

This New Moon in Pisces, while you are sitting drunk at the edge of the roof, this advice from Stephanie Austin in The Mountain Astrologer, February/March 2014 might help:

“Pisces asks us to ponder: Why did I come to Earth? What is my spiritual mission? Where do I need to trust my intuition and take a leap of faith?”

That should keep you busy for awhile.  And remember any steps we make toward awakening, no matter how tiny, moves the Collective forward. Nothing is wasted. As the final sign of the zodiac Pisces represents Unity, including all that has come before. It is the end of the astrological year. The Spring Equinox and the sign Aries, begins the year. So, we are in a completion mode.

Full Moon in Leo - Heart's Desire

This month there will only be a Full Moon. No New Moon. We had two last month. Unique, special, different. That is a good way to view this Full Moon in Leo, which means the Sun is in Aquarius.

This is the axis that relates to the individual (Leo) and the collective (Aquarius). In a sense, a false dichotomy.

Ask yourself how much of your life is based on a sense of duty; motivated by ‘shoulds’; and followed through with ‘have to’s’. Then take a moment from that consensus driven life to wonder what life could be like if motivated by ‘want to’s’; love to’s and can’t wait to’s? How are we going to usher in a New Age if we are doing things for the same old wrong reasons? We need to move from the oppositional to the unified.

Thinking outside the box includes getting rid of the box. It’s not enough to go out for a smoke then run back in.  And that’s what makes it so hard. But it’s not about getting rid of the box, we need to become the box and everything else. Realize and know it’s all One.

Once again the quote by Einstein is appropriate for this time: “The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which created them.”

The ‘problem’ is we have to change our consciousness. In the ‘60s a lot of what we did was in an effort to expand and change our consciousness. It worked. Unfortunately, it worked so well that the System was threatened. If we had continued to succeed, it would have put most of the corporations out of business. No one would be buying their xxxx anymore.

There was a backlash. First they co-opted our styles…making phony hippie jeans, bell bottoms and flowered vests. You could buy one rather than creating your own unique one. Then they started making ‘natural’ food – starting with packaged granola. People used to formulate their own. Oh yes, then there was the infiltration by the FBI, the flooding of the street with heavy-duty drugs, etc. on and on.

The ‘real’ hippies either left town or went undercover. They masked. They pretended to fit in. The shape-shifted. Some so well they became The Man and they forgot. A metaphor for the human condition.

Here we are at the 50th anniversary of the Beatles, whose most important message is still true: “All You Need is Love”.  I painted it on my kitchen door back in the day.

But what is love? Not cards, chocolates, flowers and a lovely dinner on Valentine’s Day. Love is becoming one with, merging. To truly love, you have to ‘be’ the other, feel what they are feeling. It can be summed up by the Golden Rule.

A Yucatec Mayan greeting: “In Lak’ech Ala K’in” which means “I am you and you are me” or “I am another you” is another way of saying it. Typically one touches their heart when they say it.

50 years ago, Pluto and Uranus were conjunct. Now they are squared. What was started then is now being questioned. Did we do it? Did we change the world?

Well….in many states gays are out and can marry and pot is legal. We have a black president – half black actually, but better than nothing. I say these are co-options. Crumbs thrown at us to keep us satisfied. Corporations figured out that gay people are consumers. Weddings are a huge market. Didn’t Hawaii say they didn’t want to miss out on the wedding and honeymoon market, so they voted in gay marriage? And Colorado reported the huge amounts of revenue from legal pot. Hello.

Folks…it’s still about money. ‘They’ figured out the money they could make by letting these things happen. And ‘they’ realized that Occupy had/has a lot of power and ‘they’ threw us a bone (giraffe).

Many of us boomers, alive in the ‘60s and now on Social Security (who knew?) were also born with Neptune in Libra. One of the meanings for that is we were all involved in slavery during the Roman period – either as slaves or as masters or overseers.

With Uranus in Aries right now opposing our natal Neptunes, we have the chance to finally be free. After centuries of slavery or imprisonment, people don’t need a cell or a shackle anymore. They will do it to themselves unwittingly. Freedom becomes so scary, they prefer the security of the cell/box.

This quote by Kahlil Gibran taken from the Feb/Mar 2014 issue of The Mountain Astrologer sums it up:

“Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks before emperors. But today we kneel only to truth, follow only beauty and obey only love.”

How did that happen? By an inner change, by a change of heart.

Only when we accept that ‘they’ is ‘us’ (wow does that sound ungrammatical) will anything really change. There is no ‘there’, it is all ‘here’ and we are the ones doing it to ourselves. As soon as you unite with something ‘it’ vanishes because there is only One being here. Separation is the Illusion.

We must remember that the chart only exists from our own perspective. The Sun and the Moon are in opposition forming a Full Moon, from the perspective of Earth. From the Pleiades, nothing is happening.

This Valentine’s Day, give yourself the gift of seeing differently. When you see someone that pushes your negativity buttons, say to yourself: “That is me”. See what happens.

Everyone wants to be seen and heard. Everyone wants to be special.

I’d love to hear your comments.

First Mercury Retrograde of 2014

2/5/2014

Picture
Mercury went into Pisces February 1, 2014. After only a week there, it turns retrograde.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Hermes/Mercury was the messenger of the gods. He moved between worlds much like a shaman. He is a mediator. He carried the caduceus, seen today as the insignia of the medical profession, so his activities have a healing quality. Communication can heal. The messages can be to oneself.

We all need a moral compass to help guide us forward. In the past, family, religion, school and community instilled in us a sense of ‘right and wrong’. Today we are questioning everything; rejecting and/or changing much of the way things are done. Some think we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

I feel we are in a period of profound change lying between the ‘certainty’ of the past and a future as yet unseen and unknown. We are on the doorstep of the Age of Aquarius.

For a week Mercury had a close and intimate conversation with Neptune in Pisces, the god of creative imagination, inspiration, fantasy, the dream world, and spirituality among other things. The polarity of Neptune is illusion, self-deception, glamour, addiction of all kinds and escapism. Not by accident, Neptune rules film and fashion. We just had a recent with the death by heroin of a successful movie star – the dark side of Neptune. With does Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death show us?

Success is not enough. Without a connection to Source, we are lost. Either we get the ‘real thing’ - Spirit or we get the toxic mimic* - spirits in the form of white powders, distilled intoxicants etc.

I think this ties in with the Mercury retrograde we are about to experience for the next 3 weeks in the following way.

Pisces is the last sign in the Zodiac and represents Unity. In the Precession of the Equinoxes, however, the direction is the opposite. We are just finishing the Piscean age, represented by Jesus, whose Christian symbol is the fish. The Pisces/Virgo axis is about service, sacrifice, and can be summed up by the phrase “no pain, no gain”. The old belief in the ‘starving artist’ and that there is no creativity without struggle. We have to let go of our addiction to learning only through pain.

The god of the Piscean Age demands that we suffer, hang on the cross – the axis between heaven and earth, forever.

There is a lot to be learned from hardship and struggle, but, there is a time to let go of that. We are not meant to remain victims and victimizers.

The Age of Aquarius is being born. Mercury is taking a message to Aquarius from Pisces and thus to all of us. In order to move into the New Age, we cannot bring the old attitudes with us. We will be dropping those service/sacrifice themes. We will be learning in a new way. You can see this in the proliferation of electronic media, webinars, etc.

A friend told me about something that happened the other day. After it was over he got a download to the effect that one reason the Law of Attraction does not work is that if it did, the guy who just cut us off on the freeway would be dead. We have to realize our thoughts, words and deeds have consequences. As we evolve, we have to take responsibility for our thoughts, because, they move very fast and can either harm or heal.

Aquarius is pictured as the water bearer even though it is an air sign. The astrological symbol, › resemble two horizontal lightning bolts. The flash of insight brought by Uranus/Aquarius. The speed of our thoughts.

Another important feature of this Mercury retrograde is that it will move through the halfway point between the Uranus and Pluto square. A repeated theme of the role of mediator, this will help ease the tension between those two heavy hitters.

So, how do we work with this? Getting in touch with how we really feel. Looking for the underlying emotions behind our thoughts and behaviors. Since addiction is a way of covering up and masking our emotions, getting really honest with ourselves. Clearly despite fame, fortune, family etc. Hoffman needed to numb something. There must have been a deep pain or sense of emptiness that needed to be filled.

The problem with meditation, prayer etc. is that they only work if you DO them. Often when we feel good, we forget. We are too busy being happy to do our practice. Then the ‘X hits the fan’ and we are in crisis….there is nothing to hold on to. No life preserver. You have to do the practices so that the muscle is strong for when you need it. Chances are, if you do a regular practice you won’t actually ever need it, or if you do, the crisis won’t last as long or be as intense.

We need to get serious (Pluto in Capricorn) about healing our inner child – so that we can use the energies of the New Age (Uranus in Aries) to move forward into the future with resilience, trusting that  it is all happening for our spiritual evolution….no matter what it is.

Spirit is trying to get our attention. “Wake Up!! You are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

*Expression first used by Caroline Casey to mean ‘the unreal copy that ultimately kills us’.
