Leo New Moon July 26

If ever there was a perfect time to start a creative project, this is it! This New Moon in Leo is 1° from Jupiter, which went into Leo on July 16 and will be there for the next 13 months.

Creativity is in the air!

After years of trying to find the focus of a memoir, I recently found it. Anyone who knows me may have heard stories from my time in the Peace Corps. After this year of so many deaths and a lot of emotionality (Jupiter in Cancer), I realized I won’t be living forever as so many of us with Pluto in Leo have mistakenly believed. We were/are the Flower Children, forever young…really?

The current Uranus/Pluto square is challenging us to look at what we started in the 60s, now that we are 60+, and “Ask not what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country.” Did we manifest those idealistic ideas or do they remain a ‘pipe dream’?

My Peace Corps experience was disappointing and at first, when I returned and worked for a stint in Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C., I never spoke about it. I was surrounded by bright-eyed happy people telling stories of village life in which they were loved and appreciated. By contrast, during my urban sojourn, people threw dung at me when I rode my bike down the street. Was it me?

Later, I found out that my host country was considered a ‘hardship post’ by other US government agencies and the people they sent there got extra money as a compensation.  I described it as ‘a disaster waiting to happen’ and later it did. I did my Peace Corps training in Bukavu.

It has often been my task to learn to ‘make lemonade’, and I suggest you do the same. Find ways to make something useful and delicious with the stuff of your life.

Everything in our chart, even the hard stuff, has a purpose. Our task while here in Earth School it to recognize the hard aspects or unfortunate placements as tools we have been chosen to learn to use in this lifetime.  Hmmm let me see, how can I use this Pluto/Saturn conjunction?

I believe that we wrote the script, chose the players and set the scene of our life before we incarnated. Then, forgot all about it. When the ‘xxxx hits the fan’ we act surprised. “How did this happen,” we ask ourselves.

This New Moon conjunct Jupiter in Leo is a perfect time to ‘reframe’ your past and your current life. Accept the mission: You are the Artist and Creative Director of your life. See your life as a movie. If you like it, fine. If not, change the story.

Jupiter represents optimism, faith, and expansion. Leo – courage, creativity and fun. A wonderful combination. In a way, you can say that this New Moon is the opening scene for the year+ long voyage of Jupiter through Leo. What an auspicious beginning!

As I’m sure you’ve heard, we need everyone’s creativity, energy and vision to solve the many issues that plague us here on our home planet. Jupiter in Cancer (home, family) may have highlighted where your own personal work lies. Now, in Leo, you will have the courage and added energy of the Sun to tackle it.

To end I will take the ending quote from Stephanie Austin’s column in The Mountain Astrologer because it is perfect:

“Each of us has an inner dream that we can unfold. If we will just have the courage to admit what it is. What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us.”
Julia Cameron

Full Moon in Capricorn – July 12

Capricorn and its polarity Cancer represent the gender axis in Evolutionary Astrology. Capricorn represents the masculine principle, Cancer the feminine. When the Sun is in Cancer and the Moon in Capricorn, there is a kind of ‘gender switching’ since traditionally the Sun is considered masculine and the Moon feminine. This theme is repeated with Mars (M) in Libra (F).

Both are necessary for balance. We all have both elements inside ourselves, however, we are not all balanced individuals. This Full Moon might be a good time to notice how you manage these two energies in yourself.

This Full Moon activates the Cardinal Cross once again with the Sun and Moon squaring the Lunar Nodes, Uranus and Mars. Lots of energy available for the changes we put in place. However, be sure to care for yourself. Drink lots of fluids and get enough sleep so you don’t burn out your circuits.

The Cardinal Cross that has been in effect over the last few years, is about letting go of what no longer serves our growth and moving towards new horizons. If our decisions for change are not firmly based on a sense of inner security they won’t succeed or satisfy. If we are merely avoiding or escaping, we haven’t really changed at all. We will merely recreate what we supposedly left behind but in a new location or with different people.

For the past year or so, Jupiter has been in Cancer (part of the ongoing Cardinal Cross) – perhaps showing us our emotional dependencies, causing us unnecessary suffering or encouraging us to look at our needs for security. We are emotional beings and there is nothing wrong with that. However, if our emotions control our lives and we feel at their mercy, we might feel some relief as Jupiter goes into Leo in a few days after the Full Moon. While we might not like what we see, it is important to see it. Then we have a choice about whether we want to continue on our current course, or make some correction. Extreme emotionality can have many causes, sometimes physical. Taking care of our body is always a good thing. Jupiter in Cancer can also show us how we nurture ourselves. Often people sacrifice their own needs to caring for others, at their own expense. Jupiter in Leo will help us learn about healthy self love.

Another positive aspect of Jupiter’s upcoming ingress into Leo is that Intuition (Jupiter) and Love (Leo) will be working in overdrive for the next year. The last time Jupiter was in Leo (2002-2003) was an incredible time for me and I look forward to what it will bring.

Pluto has been and will continue to be in Capricorn. Pluto exposes ‘the under belly’ of any sign it is in. Every day it seems, a new story comes out about corruption, intrigue and downright criminality in our government and the corporations that run it. Yes, you heard me right. Our government is run by corporations not ‘We the People’. Oh, that’s right, I forgot. Corporations are people. I know they are run by people, but they are not people. The fact that they have been legislated into personhood shows the extent to which they control the government. How about you trying to get a law passed saying you don’t have to pay taxes because you are a cat. Corporations are contractual agreements between people usually for their own personal gain at the detriment (usually) of that which they exploit. This is all starting to come down.

With the light of the Sun in Cancer shining bright, we may hear some further news of corruption. When a foundation is rotten, it collapses eventually. The structures of government all over the world are being challenged at this time. With so many people on the planet, we need structure to keep running. Imagine what driving would be like on a freeway with no lane lines. We might never reach our destination. But a government is meant to support (Capricorn – Saturn) and care for (Cancer – Moon) its minions, not destroy, punish and inhibit them unremittingly leaving them hopeless and despairing.

Some things are not your fault. Sometimes depression is an appropriate response to conditions. And sometimes we are just wallowing in self-pity. The serenity prayer is one of the most valuable contributions to humanity made by AA.

During these challenging times, remember it. Find ways to develop wisdom since it is the only thing worth gaining in this lifetime. With wisdom, you have everything you need to have a good life and a good death.
