Cancer New Moon – June 27, 2014            Conscious Molting

In the last few weeks, many people who have played a significant role in my life, have died or are moving far away. I don’t like the expression ‘passed’ because it reeks of Victorian prudery….where they called legs ‘limbs’ so as not to offend. Death is part of life. In fact, I have begun to wonder if Life is about learning to Die. We are encouraged to learn to ‘let go’ all the time in spiritual circles. Sufis say, “Die before Death.”

Some of you might say I am depressed and you would be right. Does it help to say that 1) Neptune is sitting on my Moon in Pisces in the 7th house, 2) Jupiter has been moving back and forth over my Venus in Cancer, 3) Pluto is opposing my Venus in Cancer, 4) Uranus is opposing my natal Neptune, and oh yes, Saturn has been going back and forth over my South Node conjunct Chiron in Scorpio? I think I am doing remarkably well.

One of my basic tenets is that everything, and I do mean everything, is set up so that we can learn the maximum lessons while here in Earth School. And further, we designed our own curriculum before we incarnated. Then we forget. So when things are tough we may whine and complain – until and unless we remember.

I am feeling the Cancer archetype very deeply. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer waxes and wanes. It is cyclic, forever changing. Reflecting the light of the Sun, it emits no light of its own. Consequently its indirect – moves sideways like the crab that represents it. No straight lines for Cancer.

I went within seeking solace through my spiritual practice. I finally got the lesson in all this loss and so I am okay with it. I have to remember that the only relationship that lasts is with God. Everyone is only a wave on the ocean of being. God is the ocean. It's okay to fall in love with humans and other beings (cats etc) but they are only the temporary manifestation of the one Beloved - God.

So it’s not about learning to let go, but rather to swim in the Ocean of Being. Living in present time. Seeing all manifestations as part of the outbreath of God. When God breathes out, something exists. When God breathes in, it ‘disappears’. Everything is God.

Science tells us that energy cannot be destroyed. All things are made of atoms and these atoms recombine to form new things and Rumi says: “Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes around in another form.”

The Cancer archetype, considered feminine, includes home, family, heritage, nurturing, and culture itself. Ruling the 4th house no matter what sign is there in your chart, it has a foundational element – the root of your being. There is a tendency for us to hold on to all that, believing it is more real than other aspects of our life. We hang on because of love. We suffer because we love. It is not about not loving, but rather loving larger. Loving what is behind all manifestation.

We are all going through a huge shift in consciousness. It is part of the evolution of the planet and of ourselves. Growth can be painful. Think of the crab and how it has to lose its shell, in order to grow. For a certain period of time it is extremely vulnerable. So too, we are all undergoing the molting process. This includes a certain amount of change. This is LIFE. Death is a change of state.

Another Rumi quote:

On the day I die, don’t say he’s gone. Death has nothing to do with going away.

The sun sets, and the moon sets but they’re not gone.

Death is a coming together.

The human seed goes down into the ground like a bucket,

and comes up with some unimagined beauty.

Your mouth closes here, and immediately opens

with a shout of joy there.

And finally, Gail Sheehy says: “if we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we are not really living. Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.”

Be like a crab. Learn to love molting.

Full Moon in Sagittarius – June 12-13, 2014

A recurring theme for me these days (maybe related to the current Mercury retrograde) is the role fear plays in controlling and limiting our lives. If and when bad things happen, (everyone has had something bad happen in their life) one of the biggest dangers is that we try to keep bad things from happening ever again. We fall down and break an ankle then, to make sure it never happens again, we stop hiking. Then we stop walking, then we stop leaving the house and then we stop living. Just because we endured pain and discomfort for a few months. Now most people would say, “That’s silly”. Today I was talking to a friend whose doctor told her, when she broke her leg at 60 that “people your age may never walk again and could die from it.” Hello, that sounds like a curse to me…not a cure.  Be careful that your words are blessings not curses.

When it comes to emotional hurts the list of avoidances would fill a book.

Human civilizations seems to have at its core a desire to try to ally fear through control and building so-called security systems – like insurance. Sounds like a good idea but think about it. Basically you are saying that you believe something bad is going to happen and you pay ahead in order to cover that bad thing that ‘might’ happen. Your house might burn down, so you pay every month ‘just in case’.

I think the only true security we have is trust in ourselves to deal with whatever comes up. One way to do that is to develop resiliency. Go to:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_resilience for an interesting piece on resiliency.

Hanging out on devices, taking selfies and pictures of your lunch and calling that a life does not develop or indicate resiliency. Sorry.

This Full Moon is in Sagittarius with the Sun in Gemini. I love what Stephanie Austin said about Gemini and Sagittarius in her article about this Full Moon in The Mountain Astrologer: “Gemini is the sign most concerned with the mind, cognition, and intelligence – how we perceive, process, and share information. Sagittarius deals with our interpretation of that information – our judgments, concepts, and beliefs around what is true, possible, and real.”

We are at a time of “dire beauty”* and we need to make some changes in both what we perceive, how we process and share information AND most of all, how we interpret that information….not to mention what we DO with it.

Our thoughts and words have power. We are all in a thrall caused by Neptune in Pisces right now and virtual reality may be preferable to the world we see around us. I get that. I avoid ‘reality’ as much as possible. I create my own reality by choosing what I will let in to my energy field as much as possible.

If and when I cannot control things (like when sitting at an airport for example), I rewrite the story. Rather than trying to fill up the ‘wasted’ time with distractions, I create an alternate story for why we are all there. Rather than avoiding interaction with all these strangers, I see us as the only humans left alive on the planet…How are we going to work together to survive and thrive? What new world are we going to create together? I look at the people with interest as if I were conducting job interviews. I try to detect consciousness in them. Many people are just sleep walking through life. Numbed out so as to not have to deal with the pain of existence. But hey….numbed out is numbed out. It means you can’t experience the beauty or the joy either.

This Full Moon also takes place under the influence of the third of three Grand Crosses this year involving Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Capricorn. All major areas of life are highlighted. But remember, who/what stands at the center of the Grand Cross? Earth! The Zodiac exists in relationship to the Earth and You are at the center of your life. You are not separate from it. We have the choice as to what we will see (Gemini) and how we will interpret it (Sagittarius). Meaning is something we give, not something we find. We give significance to things, events, etc. Nothing has inherent meaning beyond what the human puts his/her attention to.

Think about it.
