October New Moon – Solar Eclipse 2014

Among the effects of an eclipse, is the change in the light. In her article on this upcoming New Moon Solar Eclipse in The Mountain Astrologer, Stephanie Austin says that when the Sun is eclipsed, “the stream of electromagnetic energy normally emitted is “disrupted and gravitational fields are increased; old matrices dissolve and new pathways open.”

What does this mean? To me it means that the opportunities for growth and positive change are increased.

It’s not easy to change. We might see something that needs changing, yet be unable to make the changes due to deeply held belief and ideas. If we can get to the root of the problem, we have a better chance of changing behavior.

A person who hoards or is unable to let go of old things that they no longer use, may be operating from a place of pain from events that occurred during childhood. They may throw things out then suffer extreme anxiety, not knowing why. Or, be totally unable to let go of things until and unless they are forcibly removed.

The core issue may stem from a feeling of abandonment, loss, or trauma. This cause may be so buried that it is unavailable.

It has been my experience that we cannot discover these things using a direct approach. They are ghosts who hide out in the depths and shadows of consciousness. But, if we are meditating, practicing being present or otherwise working on our consciousness, something I call Grace will open those hidden doors deep inside. You will find yourself is a situation where ‘miraculously’ something important will be revealed.

This eclipse cycle in Scorpio is an important time for transformation. Pay attention to how you feel throughout the day. What excites you, what scares the hell out of you. What are you attracted to, what repelled by. I have learned through my years in a Gurdjieff school and studying Sufism, that often, the person you are least attracted to, has a special message for you that relates to these deep hidden ghosts from the past. That’s why you are not attracted to them. Your ego does not like change. It has worked hard constructing an exterior to show the world, even if it is miserable, alone, and broke.

Your encounter with that person may be brief, but it can change your life. “The doorway to your fondest dreams is often through the portal of your darkest fears.” Patricia Sun

This person may be the keeper of this doorway.

Another issue: what does healing look like? Can we ever say we are ‘healed’? How will our lives changed when we are healed? Will we always be a ‘survivor’ of this or that? Or can we move on? Caroline Myss discussed this decades ago in her early books. Will we ever get over it? Should we?

I feel that these things are echoes from past lives that we are set up to work on in this life. Taking lifetimes to unfold, they may take lifetimes to heal. When it happens, it can feel instantaneous. Yet, it may have taken a long time to happen.

Why are you here? Ever thought about that? To get married and reproduce? To get a good job and look forward to a comfortable retirement?

Scorpio is about the womb and the tomb. The time between is short is the scheme of things. How will you occupy your time? In a vegetative state (producing and reproducing)? Or will you use it to move up the spiral of light toward higher consciousness? I’m not saying that the things of the world are not important, just that this is not all there is. If it were, then why are so many people ‘who have it all’ so unhappy? Why does someone like Robin Williams commit suicide if fame and fortune, family and friends were enough? Because it isn’t.

Without a connection to Source nothing works. Our task then is to recognize and deal with whatever stands in our way to that connection. Many traditions say that Creation is a separation from Source and that our mission is to Return.  The Return is not merely dying, since we may still be on the wheel of death and rebirth. The Return is Ascension from this plane. It can occur in life. Certain people have accomplished it while still in the body. Sometimes they leave behind guidebooks for Ascension. The sacred books of the many religions are among the guidebooks, but they have to be read from a deeper place than is done in most churches, mosques and synagogues. All the sacred texts manifest on different levels and dimensions. They all have a mundane level, where they provide rules and laws for everyday life. But they all have a deeper, subtle level which is anything but about rules and laws.

Be willing to read the books from a different perspective. See what they say about Light. “Light encodes information,” SA/TMA. Light is the key.

Full Moon Eclipse October 8, 2014

Happy Anniversary to Wayfinder Astrology!
For the past couple of weeks, I have been receiving on a daily basis, ‘opportunities’ for spiritual growth through webinars. They often have a free component, then a sales pitch about a 3-9 month program for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  Either there is a huge burst in this ‘market’, or I am on the ‘right’ mailing lists.

Most of them begin with statements about how they know you are unhappy with the way you are and truly want to change, then offer you ways to do it.

I’m beginning to think that dissatisfaction is part of the human condition and these people know it and are cashing in on it by offering a ‘way out’. But without dissatisfaction, we might not even get out of bed. Our body is dissatisfied by the way if feels when we have to use the bathroom or when we feel the pangs of hunger. We seek satiety, but it is always temporary. When we realize this, we begin to recognize that boredom, frustration, restlessness, and even exhaustion are signs that something wants to change. We are either needing to shed something or take in something new. Like eating and eliminating. The In and Out of life.

Most wisdom traditions speak about Nature as the Book of Life. In the cycles of Nature everything is revealed. Ecclesiastes 3: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” This line is familiar to most who come from a Christian based culture, such as our own in the U.S. It goes on to give the specifics.

In our intelligence we have learned to control, harness and change many natural phenomena  to our advantage. Our arrogance has led us to think we are outside of Nature which has led to many of the problems we face today.

This Full Moon will be a total lunar eclipse. The Moon will be within 1°of Uranus. At the same time, Mercury will be retrograde in Scorpio.

The Aries/Libra axis, first and seventh houses, or Ascendant/Descendant are Self and Other. It has been called the relationship axis. I/thou. Another way of saying this is Inner and Outer.

I feel we are most content when there is congruence between the inner and the outer.  When we have made peace with ourselves. That doesn’t mean you have to be the same all the time. It does mean you have to know and understand yourself, change what you can and accept the rest. If we are experiencing constant inner turmoil every time we try to act, we will be miserable and/or paralyzed.

When we set a goal, we have to both push ourselves and give ourselves some slack. Mastery is knowing when and how much pressure to apply and when to let go - kind of like fishing. Like any task, we have to learn how to use the tools of the trade. With ourselves it can be tricky because we are seldom either realistic or honest.

Often we are not willing to take the time to develop self-knowledge. We bumble along in life, making mistakes, going through deep depressions, losing hope and faith etc., etc. Yet we somehow expect to have fantastic relationships. “We get what we pay for,” as my father often said. We harvest what we sow.

Most of the time, we only make changes when we have pushed things to the crisis point. Enter Uranus. In Evolutionary Astrology, Uranus God of Change is also related to trauma. Jeffrey Wolf Green (the creator of Evolutionary Astrology) said that three quarters of the population was born with PTSD either from pre-natal causes, or past lives. During our early childhood situations would arise that would echo that past trauma so that we were set up for the evolutionary issues of the current life as reflected in the nodal axis and Pluto by sign and house.

Eclipses occur near the nodal points of the Moon. So, this Full Moon eclipse directly affects all those who have their nodes in Aries/Libra and those whose nodes are square the current nodal axis ie those with nodes in Cancer/Capricorn.

Since Pluto is at 11° Capricorn, it, in effect, is currently squaring the nodes and so…squares this Full Moon eclipse. Pluto in Capricorn – power and control, societal structures such as governments, organized religions etc. The current nodal axis is very much part of the action these days since Uranus is in Aries and squares Pluto. This Full Moon eclipse could trigger some huge changes in the world – the outer. What will it trigger in you?

Fall is the harvest time. A great time to look back at the resolutions we made at the beginning of the year, at the plans we made, at what we planted and see how it’s all coming. Did you accomplish any of your goals for the year? Did you set any? If not, there is still time to get it done.

The Mercury Retrograde period is from October 4 – 25. A good time to go within and assess where you are in relation to where you want to be. It will go from Scorpio back into Libra. Libra is about listening. Be sure to take time – daily if possible to listen to what your soul is trying to tell you, so that when Mercury goes direct, you will have ‘your marching orders’ for the next few months. Maybe you need a reset on the goals you already established but have gotten lax on.

After I did the Human Race in May, I planned to continue training so that next May I could do the 5K. I totally forgot about it until the other day. I jumped right up and out of the house to get back on track. It’s neither too hot nor too cold right now so I have no excuses.

Whatever you come up with as your goal…the most important thing is to ‘just show up.” You don’t even have to be there 100%. Don’t second-guess yourself. Once you have chosen to do something, follow through. If you are like me, when the time comes to do it you say, “whose idea was this?” seeking ways to get out of it. And most of all “keep it simple (stupid)” as they say. If your project is complex, break it down into do-able units, so that you can achieve them. Nothing succeeds like success.

Oh yes, and one more thing about eclipses. It is said that they form portals through which souls enter and exit this plane. They are like wormholes into other worlds. Great for inter-dimensional travel.

Happy Eclipse!
